Watermelon is one of my favorite post-workout fruits...
Here's why:
1- it's one of the highest glycemic index fruits which means it will cause an insulin spike that will replenish the depleted muscle glycogen quickly after intense training for optimal recovery.
2- Watermelon in latin means Citrulline. The latter is converted to Arginine by special enzymes in the body. Research shows it is an amino-acid responsible for muscle-building and reducing muscle fatigue.

buddy what other fruits do you recommend post workout for people who dont enjoy eating waterlemon, and which have a high glycemic index ? cheers keep it up :)
ReplyDeleteHey Elie! Watermelon is just one of the options. What also constitutes a high-glycemic index fruit that I really enjoy eating are dates. They're an economic option especially in Lebanon! :))
ReplyDeleteAlso you might want to consider melons. Whenever we have them around, I enjoy them post-workout. Also sometimes first thing in the morning half an hour before breakfast to get my body into an anabolic state (along with a whey shake). Djoe
